Frequently Asked Questions

I'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE? WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

It's going to be a lot less weird and scary than you might imagine. During our first visit together, we'll discuss:

  • Your confidentiality, privacy and rights.

  • Our relationship and policies.

  • Why you're coming in for counseling, what you hope to get out of the experience, and how you'll know if it's working for you.

  • Your likes, dislikes, experiences in the past, fears or concerns about therapy and anything else that might be on your mind.

  • Any questions you might have for me about myself as a therapist, my experience, or the process as a whole.

  • Who you are as a whole person, so that I can know more about you than just your current struggles

OKAY, THEN WHAT?

Then, if we feel like it's a good fit, we look at our calendars and schedule regular visits. During some of the early visits, I'll share information with you that will be helpful during the long term. I'll also help you explore some of the areas that brought you in to counseling. We'll chat for 50-minutes at a time and, in the process, will develop a relationship that will help foster your success in making the changes you'd like to make. As we continue our relationship, we'll know one another a lot better and everything will be more comfortable and seamless.

DO YOU OFFER A CONSULTATION?

I do! I offer a free initial 50- minute session so that we can spend time together face-to-face. Counseling is a relationship-based process and I want to make sure that we are going to be a good fit for one another. While most people connect with my style of therapy, there may be a better fit for you out there. I want to make sure you're getting the best care possible, even if it's not with me.

FAQ

NOT TO MAKE IT ALL ABOUT MONEY, BUT WHAT’S YOUR FEE?

Please call for my current fee schedule. My standard session length is 50 minutes. I also will see clients for 90- or 100-minute sessions at a prorated price. Your rate will remain the same throughout your process. To help make sure this is a good fit before spending your hard-earned money and time, I offer a free initial visit to make sure we're compatible.

Those who are working with me on legal matters (i.e. Clinical evaluations for court cases, expert witness testimony, testifying on your behalf) are billed at a different rate. If this is relevant to the services you're searching for, please contact me so that we can discuss your case further.

WHAT ABOUT USING INSURANCE?

I don't deal with any insurance directly. I am considered out-of-network for all providers. Now, that's not necessarily bad news for you if you have insurance you're trying to take advantage of. I'm more than happy to provide superbills -- forms pre-filled out for you to send to your insurance company. Additionally, you can always use your HSA/FSA to take advantage of your pre-tax dollars. Often times, you can be reimbursed for our time together.

The one caveat is that I have occasionally worked with Crime Victims Compensation. If this is relevant to your current search for a therapist, please contact me; I'd love to chat.

DO I HAVE TO LAY DOWN ON THE COUCH?

You totally can if you want to, but you don't have to lay down on the couch. Though, you wouldn't be the first person to do it. Some days are hard and you just want to rest a bit while we’re working. The benefit of my office being in a house-like setting is that it’s cozy. Want to take your shoes off, bring a blanket, make a cup of coffee? Do it! I want you to be as comfortable as possible while we're together.
